Adam Seligman
Within its international project “Religion and Public Space: Interdisciplinary Approaches” the University Centre for the Study of Religions (CSR) invites you to the open lecture on “Ritual and Sincerity: Certitude and the Other” by Adam B. Seligman. The project is directed by Dr. Simeon Evstatiev, Associate Professor of Arabic and Islamic History at Sofia University Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies and is funded by the National Science Fund of the Republic of Bulgaria.

 Dr. Adam B. Seligman is a leading sociologist of religion, distinguished Professor of Religion at Boston University and Research Associate at Boston University CURA—Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs. Within the ongoing cooperation with the team of Professor Seligman the Centre for the Study of Religions at Sofia University will host the Sofia part of the International Summer School on Religion and Public Life A Mosaic of Margins: Ethnicity, Religion, and Belonging, 4–18 July, Sofia, Plovdiv, and Edirne.

 The open lecture followed by a discussion will be delivered on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 18:00 to 19:30 p.m. in the New Conference Hall of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.

 

A public lecture on Culture and Identity: How They Influence Governance by the leading anthropologist of Islam and the Middle East—Prof. Dr. Dale F. Eickelman (Dartmouth College, USA; Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin)—in the framework of an international workshop officially launched the new international project Religion and the Public Sphere: Interdisciplinary Approaches carried out by a team at Sofia University’s Centre for the Study of Religions funded by the National Science Fund at the Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science. The public event was held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 18:00 to 19:30 p.m. in Hall 1 at the Rectorate of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.
